Originally recorded June 19, 1928 by Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell (in an Indianapolis hotel room!), it quickly became a million seller - one of the first! Since then, it has been recorded by BB King, Eric Clapton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lead Belly, Ray Charles, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker and scores of others. 

“Hard Work Don’t Pay,” the official music video, takes you into the Juke Joint Chapel at the legendary Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale, Miss. Wyze & the Tellers crank it up with a deep dive into coal mining for a familiar tale of woe – the sudden realization that “dang-it... hard work don’t pay!” Can you dig?!
